The past couple of days have been BUSY BUSY at school, but actually a lot of fun!! Here's what's been going on...
Our second grade team decided to do rotations. We picked different places/time periods to study with our classes and then had each of the other classes rotate through the rooms to learn about the different places...There was 1)Aztec 2)Medieval 3)Colonial 4)Ancient Egypt. Another teacher and I did ancient Egypt. Just a few pics of the room...
As the kids rotated through, we had them practice writing in hieroglyphics.
Then, today we had our class "holiday" party...really a Christmas party, but you gotta be political about it at school. lol We made all kinds of goodies. The kids painted snowflake ornaments for their parents. Then they made gingerbread houses and some of them turned out really good. Of course, the other half fell down. lol...but overall it was really neat. They had so much fun building their little houses. They kept saying, "This is the best day ever Mrs. Miller!" "You are the best teacher!" "I love you Mrs. Miller. I love you like a mom." lol...it was so cute and funny. By the end of the day, the kids were STUFFED with food and sugar...and then I sent them home. ;)
After all the fun CRAZINESS, I treated myself to a "Let's get this holiday started right!" pedicure...so nice :)
The break is finally here!!! yaaaayyyy! Merry Christmas y'all! :)
How cool. I like your ancient pyramid. Kids are so sweet when they get excited. For Christmas we are going to spend the morning at home opening presents with the kids and then head over to Mom and Dad's to open presents and eat lunch. Less than a week away now! :)
I made gingerbread houses with my third graders every year and it was just a blast! I didn't really give any instructions on it so it was neat to see them figure out how to make a stable structure! Enjoy your much needed holiday break!
I'll bet they did! The other half that I didn't tell about the nightly ritual with my boys is that I also tell them that if I have to tell them to stop arguing, to go to sleep over and over, or anything like that more than once, I'll start deleting their pictures and they're gone forever. I've never had a problem :) It's quite fun actually.
Did you and Jesse have a great first Christmas as the Miller family? ;)
The past couple of days I haven't been feeling that well...not like sick, but just not that well. I think it's a combination of the weather (so coldddd...brrrrr) and allergies (my eyes are burning and itching all the time) and headache, and work...and just being plain ole tired. It's sooo hard to get out of bed in the mornings, especially when it's cold outside. You just want to stay all snuggled up under the warm covers and sleep till about noon...and then slowly get up, staying in your pjs, make a nice big breakfast and enjoy it while snuggling in the couch to a nice Christmas movie. :) sounds nice. But instead, I jump out of bed at about 7:00ish aaaahhhhh, throw on clothes, look like a mess, rush out the door by 7:10 to be at work by 7:30. lol...not a very good morning routine. Three more days till the break!!!! And then I can sleep in and do all the fun relaxing stuff (sigh).
I would really LOVE it if it was cold and snowy (or at least icy) on Christmas day!!! It's been so cold lately, why can't they just save this weather for Christmas?? lol...It stinks when it's all warm and sunny on Christmas, well, it doesn't stink... typically I LOVE warm and sunny weather, just not on Christmas! Because then it doesn't feel like Christmas!! One of these days I need to go visit a state where I can see a big huge mass of snow flakes falling from the sky and piling up on the ground! oooohhhh....fun!
Today my students wrote letters to Santa. Always one of my favorite things...although, this year's letters aren't quite as entertaining as years past. Second graders spell a little better. lol...but they were still cute.
Poor Jesse is having to work more and more hours lately. Today he worked till about 8:30. urg...and this Saturday he has to work another 24 hour shift!!! blah!! I just HOPE that he can PLEASE have off some time around Christmas!!!!
Oh, and today, my PYP coordinator told me that I have another opportunity to go to a PYP training since I missed the last one. This one will be in Boston!! I've never been there before, so that might be a lot of fun! The only thing is that it will be the weekend of February 13-16....what?!?!?! Last time it was Halloween weekend, this time it is Valentine's weekend! Who picks the dates to have these trainings anyways?!?!?! hhhmmmm....we will see. I might still go, I just need to talk to Jesse and figure it out.
I hope everyone has a happy and blessed rest of the week. :) Merry Christmas ♥
Boston sounds cool, but that stinks that it is over Valentines! Did you get my email about meeting at the building on Friday @ around 6:15 to carpool to Blora? If not I can send it again. =)
I grew up in NY and it snowed A LOT (even for NY) when I was a child. One time I went to bed Christmas Eve and woke up to 3 feet of snow on Christmas Day! I didn't pay any attention at all to tv news or weather back then, so it was a total neat surprise! AND, we just happened to get a brand new sled that Christmas!
I agree wholeheartedly with your fantasy about sleeping in, making a big breakfast, and watching movies. Luckily, you'll get to do that very soon. Boston? How wonderful! I hope it works out. Hey, maybe Jesse could go with you and you guys can make a vacation out of it:)
i bet the lonley old bitter people pick the dates for those confrences... stinkin people!!... and i agree with you about wanting to stay in bed til noon... that would be so nice!!
If Jessie can go with you, it would be awesome to be in Boston on Valentines day! There is a LOT to see there, it's a really cool city to visit. I hope it works out!
It would be so cool if you and Jesse could go to your training in Boston. What a possibly awesome Valentine's weekend. I also would like cold for Christmas, but not icy. I want to be able to drive to Mom and Dad's for lunch without slipping and sliding all over the road! I'm ready for the weekend and the next two weeks, too. I really need to get more then 6 1/2 hours of sleep a night. I could use a couple of mornings to sleep in! :)
I am driving to Stephenville today to watch my little sister graduate from college! She finished in only 3.5 years on a full honors academic scholarship....pretty awesome. Good job lil sis! :)
Thanks for asking about me! I go back to the doctor to have more tests run tomorrow. So far my vision hasn't improved any, and there is concern on the doctor's part. I'm okay with whatever the final outcome is because I laid it all at the feet of the Lord. I know that I avoided total blindness in that eye by having the surgery; so even if my vision never improves, I'm really better off than I was before. PLUS, my left eye (the other one) is in great shape since the surgery on it earlier this year. :)
I did that last year to Bobby, Mike, Josh, and Bryan. It was hilarious. I took screenshots of it to keep it was so funny. I'll email them to you although it isn't quite as funny as watching it in person.=)
So the end of Thanksgiving...brings the beginning of Christmas!
I like to think of Christmas as more of a month long holiday :)
I am going to start putting out my Christmas decorations today! Hopefully I can get Jesse to help me put up some lights outside.
Just 3 more weeks of school until Christmas break!!! It's going by fast! On Fri, Dec 12th we will be having our 2nd grade field trip to a cool planetarium. :)
On Saturday, Dec 13th, Katrina will be graduating from college!! woah!
So far I have bought FOUR Christmas presents...and I have DOZENS more to go! eeeekkk!! But to me, shopping for gifts is so much fun. :)
Jesse worked a 24 hour shift yesterday and has been asleep ALL day...I feel like I haven't seen him in 2 whole days...crazy military schedule! His knee surgery is currently scheduled for Tues, Jan 6th.
I am so excited about the Trail of Lights, the Christmas movies (I LOVE The Santa Clause movie, Elf, It's a Wonderful Life!), Christmas music, Transiberian Orchestra, Secret Santas, ornament exchanges, cookie exchanges...it's the most wonderful time of the year! :)
A girl at work told me that she got a 6 ft tree, round and full, at Lowes for $15!! If I can find a deal like that, then we will be getting a real tree this year!!
I love fudge! and hot chocolate! but especially during this time of year. :)
I haven't heard of the Trail of Lights- what is that? We were talking about getting a group together to go through the lights out at BLORA (Belton Lake). We always go through a cool one in Oklahoma, but since we won't make it there this year I am considering all the alternatives! =)
i think i shocked Rebekah when i told her we need to go to trail of lights this year. Thank you for the birthday wish, it was a great day spending time with Rebekah. Well i have always been the electrical christmas light engineer of finding ways to not burn the house down or blow breakers, but i have to take a break this year due to my bummed knee...
No kidding. The guy here in Houston when I requested my boarding pass to Austin just stared at me liek I was an idiot. Luckily for me, I'm not...I think, haha.
Thanks. With your red and green post I thought for sure you had already had decorations up. Someone once told me before Rett and I had our first "official" Christmas together that....it's good to be around family during the holidays but make sure you carve some time out for just you and your hubby, try to create a new tradition for your new family...you only have one "First Christmas" together. Just thought I'd share that with you.
