Hey everyone. I have a bit of a request, and I fell kinda funny about asking for it. With all the other truly noble things to give your money towards, I feel weird for asking for it.
But I will anyway. Because it's not for me, it's for Alex.
His birthday is next month and he is turning 30 years old. That is kind of a big deal, I believe. Well anyway, he has this wish to be a part of this contest that he ran across last month.
As I think you have gathered if you have read enough of my pass blogs, Alex is crazy for racing. Well, as I said, he came across a contest last month that allows him to race professional rally cars and the grand prize of the contest is:
Use of a fully prepared National spec rally car with a World Rally Championship experienced professional co-driver, professional support crew with World Rally Championship experience, and a full professional support truck.
All National drive running costs will be covered by sponsor, which includes: use of National spec rally car, rally drivers license, rally entry fees with pace notes, rally driving suit, helmet, rally driving gloves, rally driving boots, lodging and meals during the rally drive. Totally a cost of $25,000.
The thing is, it's not just an "enter your name and see if you win" kind of contest. It's a "come to us and show us how well you drive and maybe we might select you to go to the next level. He is a fantastic driver, and he thinks he can do well in this, he has raced in the past. He just needs to opportunity to prove his driving skills to continue through the contest.
Here is the link for more info: Rally Drive USA
I would LOVE to help him with this. The first round is $350 to enter...but the thing is, there is flight/hotel and rental car expenses too, because the contest is in Florida. I can't go with him, but I want him to have this opportunity.
I am asking, if you want... Would any of you be willing to donate a few bucks here or there to help me get this for him. $2, $5, $10...any amount would be SO helpful. The deadline is Jan 28th.
Any chance I get to prove to him the power of Christians gathering together, I get excited. I want him to get the realization that if Christians will ban together on something fun and trivial, then when/if something truly serious happens, then they are there for that too.
If this gets off the ground, I will keep detailed accounts of how much things cost and where the money is going.
Thanks for at least considering it.
Love you ALL!!
Alex's Gift

Have you ever had an experince/time that was so life changing or altering, but you couldn't really put it into words? You just KNEW that no matter what happened to you after then, your life was different. And to vocalize it or articulate it would either demean the time or just not be enough?
The year of 2008 has been that way for me.
Not just relationship wise...but in many, many other ways.
This year has been amazing. I have come to many realizations that I might have known in theory, or intellecually. But now I feel it and can swallow a wee bit of my pride and accept things. And enjoy the lessons learned.
I understand that that was a bit vague. And I apologize, but I think you might know what I am attempting to say.
Anyway, I'll attempt be be more concrete with slightly more benign things. But nonetheless:
Jessi's "Best of 2008" list.
Best song: You are the Best Thing - Ray LaMontagne
Best albums: AMAZING year for albums. But I would have to say, The Clash - Live at Shea Stadium, The Raconteurs - Consolers of the Lonely, The Black Keys -Attack & Release, TV on the Radio - Dear Science AND Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes
Best Movies: I haven't seen alot of movies this year. But I really enjoyed these: Be Kind Rewind, Ironman and Man on Wire.
Best book read: The Thriteenth Tale - Dianna Setterfield
Best on TV: Pushing Daisies
Best new hobby: Chicken Thursdays!
Best new food: Tomatoe Pie/quiche
Best new resteraunt: Slippery Noodle Inn - Indianapolis, IN
Best discovery: MotoGP
Best trip: MotoGP race in Indy
what else am I missing? hmmm
I have no idea what, if anything 2009 has in store for me. I have made plans, and Lord Willing, I will be doing some more amazing things. But with the lessons I learned this year, I feel better equipped.
May all of you have a safe and glorious New Year and may you always meditate on things which are good.
LOVE YOU.

Christmas this year might have been one of the best ones ever. There were just so many fabulous moments of laughing, crying, teasing, loving, great gifts and just a wonderful, wonderful experience all around.
Alex and Dad made breakfast. Mom, Terra, Allison and I made dinner and Josh...well, he had no hand in food preperation, but he did gladly consume. :-)
Santa brought a Wii and Guitar Hero to stay at Mom and Dad's house so when we all get together we can rock out. (Dad said that he WILL try it, but only completely by himself. That bums me out, because I would love to see that!)
If you care, here were some of the gifts that were exchanged:
to me from:
Mom and Dad - nice pyrex dishes, cookie sheets, and other baking/cooking utensils. An "Office" day calandar. A cute little book about a Moose. (I like moose, they make me laugh). Towels (including some tennis towels!) and washclothes, and a few other cool little stocking stuffers including a Ray Lamontagne CD.
Allison - Two pairs of gorgeous high heels, a very cool hat, the new Killers CD and some smell goods from Victoria Secret.
Josh and Terra - some amazing smelling spices for my Chicken Thursdays. :-)
Nick - a very cool framed charcoal drawing of Bob Marley from a nearby artist.
Alex - he desigend and created an event poster of Joe Strummer for me to frame and hang up. It is GORGEOUS. I will have to scan it and show it all to you. He also created several CDs of Joe Stummer's radio program from the early 2000s and he created a CD cover that had me in the liner notes! And he also bought be The Clash Live at Shea Stadium CD.
Alex also designed and either created on the computer or handdrew all his gifts to everyone else in my family. He drew a picture of Jill for Josh and Terra and drew a picture of Jack Skellington for Al. He created on the computer some posters for Mom and Dad too. He really outdid himself! :-)
From me to others:
Mom - I made her a calendar with pictures of the family and also some lotion from Bath and Body.
Dad - some nice isotoner gloves and Rick Steve's Travel DVDs.
Terra - lamps for their remodeled basement.
Josh - A large Maglight and some Superman sleeping shorts.
Jill - Disney CDs
Nick - a couple of History Channel DVDs of WWII.
Allison - a pair of gloves, a vest, two t-shirts, jack Skellington slippers and a Nightmare Before Christmas throw.
Alex - a calendar of our trip to Indy for the Motogp weekend, a hoodie and a book.
And the "kids" chipped in and bought mom and dad tickets to see Celtic Women. Dad was THRILLED. :-)
I got the reactions I was going for from my gifts to others and it was just a beautiful, beautiful day. And later that evening, me, Al, Alex and Nick all went to see "Bedtime Stories". It was soooo cute!
:-)
The days that followed were equally as fun. Josh, me, Allison, Nick and Alex had a video game day at the parents house on Saturday. We had the Wii plugged up in one room, and Nick brought his 360 and we hooked that up in the other room. So we went back and forth playing all night long.
It was jut a fun weekend.
too bad I had a cold. :-)
