Our Thanksgiving 12-01-08 01:10pm EST
We had a terrific Thanksgiving at my sister's house in Madison, IN. 35 of us were able to be together this year. We came from 6 states and 3 time zones. California, Wisconsin, Illinois, Missouri, Indiana, Kentucky. We had enough food to feed "an army", but I think we had a small "army." Especially if you count the teenage boys who eat a lot.

One of our big Thanksgiving traditions is for the ladies to go shopping the day after Thanksgiving! We get to leave all children behind with our husbands. I think the leaving the kids with the husbands part became a tradition after I lost Dustin in a big mall. What made the whole thing worse was I didn't know he was lost, because I thought he was with someone else. I think he was about 2 years old at the time. Obviously that turned out to be a happy ending.

This year there were 9 of us who went shopping. 5 of us left home at about 7:30a.m. The other 4 caught up with us at about noon. A late lunch at Olive Garden is part of our day after Thanksgiving tradition. Yummm! We usually eat at around 2:30 p.m. This year we ate at about 2:00 p.m. so not much earlier.

This year I actually bought a couple of items. We all got some pretty good deals. I think we arrived back home at about 5:30 p.m. We had a really good day.

Some people arrived at my sister's house on Tuesday, everyone was there by Thursday. One family left on Thursday after the big meal. Most families left on Saturday (including us). The last family left on Sunday. We all had a totally terrific time.

tweedledeeVery fun!!! ...so that's what happened to Dustin ;) We ONLY had 25 or so at our meal ... everyone laughs at me when I mention the small number but really we were missing about 16 or 17!! =) I am still eating leftovers as if it were Thanksgiving day all over again and again and again and...
create_a_wayI couldn't agree more!

crazy_mamaThanks for your comment. We are very excited! Sometimes the unexpected is the best gift of all!! We are really enjoying homeschooling and feel so blessed to be able to do this for us and for our girls.
mullenpatchWell, It all started with Xmas 2007. We visited some old friends who lived in Athens. Robert and the other man talked, so when we got back (Jan) Robert sent him a resume. Robert's parents came for a visit in March. Robert got a call the week after they left, had a plant trip a week after that and was made an offer on the spot. They wanted him in April, but we could not so he posponed it til May. During that time his Dad had open heart surgery and had been in the hospital from March until July then was able to go to family camp. Dad had troubles with other things went in hospital again from august until september had a stent put in. Now we are in N AL to help his parents when they need us. So far we haven't been needed much, but I think Robert's mom and dad feel better knowing he is closer. Robert, right now is the only one of his siblings in great health. He's still got a few extra pounds, but nothing serious. We have enjoyed our move here except of course leaving Liv. Ave. We miss them terribly. Feel free to email me at mullenpatch2@yahoo.com.Sheila

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SARAH! 11-22-08 11:42am EST
Today is Sarah's 9th birthday. She is so excited. She has been counting down to her birthday for 2 1/2 months. Dan is working today and Sarah can hardly stand it until he gets home so we can celebrate her birthday. At our house it is tradition for the birthday person to pick a place to eat. Sarah has chosen Fazoli's that is unless she changes her mind between now and then. Sarah is such a sweet girl, she is very helpful, she loves people, she wants to help everyone, she is very outgoing. She'll make a great mom someday, or president of the United States. Those who know her know what I mean.
homeschoolmomma23Happy Birthday Sarah!! I remember meeting you at the campout. Hope you have a great 9th birthday.
tweedledeeHAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY Sarah!!! I LOVE Fazolis!!!!!!! but I haven't eaten there in 8 or so years.... and I live where they can be found. Hmmmm... graduation treat next semester =)
joel_meganHappy Birthday Sarah!!!
bgHappy b-day Sarah! Have a wonderful day!
schmidtkinsAw, Happy Birthday! Wow, wouldn't it be something to have a Christian as President? That would be amazing!
calvinsparentsHAPPY BIRTHDAY SARAH!!!! Have fun at Fazoli's and eat a breadstick for me! :)
verny_mackHappy birthday to Sarah! :) Have a great time with your family from far away, too. :)

Mackenna has gone home from the hospital 11-13-08 10:52am EST
I wanted everyone to know that Mackenna is now home. She left the hospital on Tuesday evening. She and her parents are very happy to be out of the hospital. I believe she is on 8 meds and still on a feeding tube (last I knew) and has a long way to go. But, she is home and that is a big step. Please keep praying for Mackenna and her family. If you missed the details about Mackenna scroll down a few blogs and you can read all about her. Mackenna was born on October 4th. This is her first time to be at home.
schmidtkinsWow, that is great news! You all must be relieved. I believe that she will thrive better at home!!!!
tweedledeeVery very pleasing news... and we'll continue to pray and hope for a safe quick recovery!!
jaydonI am teaching Geography, the seven continents to be exact!
dolphin94I'm so glad she is home!!!
sallyanneGreat news. I'll keep praying for her...
rockinrobinHow wonderful for everyone!!!
verny_mackAh, I bet it was wonderful having the Reakas over for a little bit! :) It is fun taking care of the animals while they are gone, it's just funny to experience all the adventures of "farm-life" while they are gone. ;)
schmidtkinsThank you for your comment. I deleted it from my post, only because it said where I live (I try to be very careful about that) but you are right about the people and the weather here. It IS odd sometimes. The locals say that there is no "normal" here. I am not sure that I totally agree with that. There is some range of normal, but after seeing some of the funky things that have been going on, I can see why they SAY it!
schmidtkinsYes, and no prob... I just didn't want you to feel slighted when you saw it gone.
miss_lesterYAY!!!!!
sallyanneThank you!

No Smoking! 11-07-08 03:39pm EST
Yeah! Our local board of health voted in a No Smoking policy for all public places. Not for the whole state, just our one little county. But, hey! We are happy for that. One town at a time is becoming a non-smoking community. At first the non smoking towns were the bigger cities. Now a lot of the smaller towns are joining in. We're hoping that one day the whole state will be non-smoking in public places. In the meantime we are very happy with the progress that is being made. January 1st is the start day for the non-smoking policy.
tweedledeeVery exciting!! ...tho' for some reason I feel like more people than ever are smoking on campus, cough cough... YUCK!
comadethat's great! It has been like that here for a while now and I love it!
hmjmomYEA! I destest being near cigarette smoke!
melissalYippee!
stargazermomThat's great.
stargazermomThat's great about the non smoking. I'm a weather fanatic so I can relate to your post below.
dolphin94The whole state of IL is non-smoking.
didowOur Wal-mart is doing the same thing I think. They don't seem to have any new fabric in. They've always been a great place to be able to shop for fabric while the rest of the family goes and does their thing.
rockinrobinI wish this would go nationwide. It would help on everyones insurance..health and business insurane. Makes sense!
miss_lesteryahoo!
jaydonThat is a great beginning. We have a no smoking in public buildings here in the entire state, but that leads to clusters of people smoking outside in designated areas. If you have to pass through - Yuck - but it's still better than having to endure inside. I forget when I visit other places and see people smoking in a restaurant that it is allowed in some places.
rockinrobinI will try to let you know about next years..I believe it is the first week-end in November 6,7th 2009. Look on the website: 1000Voices.org.
schmidtkinsYou can only do it for minors, or someone in a wheel chair, I think. But yes, you can meet them back there
kygirlit was great to go to the community center yesterday and see "This is a non- smoking facility" on the door:)
rockinrobinThanks. Now to not gain weight so I can still fit in this in March.

November weather 11-06-08 12:40pm EST
I love talking about the weather. I have to see the weather forecast on TV. I don't feel like I have seen the news if I haven't seen the weather report.

Our weather has been absolutely fantastic. The outdoor temperatures have been in the 70's or higher
for awhile now. However - that is all about to end. Starting tomorrow the temps drop down to the 60's. Day after that the temps go on down to the 50's. The weather people say it's going to be awhile before we get out of the 50's. I just hope the temps go back up and not down again. This time of year the temperatures go up and down quite a bit.

We are also supposed to get some rain on Friday and Saturday. With Friday only having a 40% chance and Saturday only a 30% chance. And to make it worse the rain chances are scattered. Meaning some may get rain and most wont get rain. Not good being that we are in a drought.
homeschoolmomma23I love cooler weather. I can't wait for the 60s and the 50s. I like the cozy feel of it.
loruhamaOur weather has been perfect this week also. Which is why most of our curriculum is not done! Thankfully, there will be plenty of dark, cold winter days to finish it!
melissalAh, fall weather. I'd like some of that!
sallyanneI'm with her
miss_lesterAmen, sister.
