Just letting everyone know that I am back in the States. Its great to be back! Now I'm trying to get caught up on all the things I missed while I was gone. Thanks to everyone for the support while I was gone. Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. :)
Short update for everyone. I've got about 5 weeks to go before I'm stateside again. We're pretty busy now. A lot of equipment coming through to inspect, getting ready to come home, plus a move to a new location on base. Our reliefs should be here soon. Once we give them some training and hand off to them, we'll be on a freedom bird to the USA! See you soon!
We hope. I just got back from R&R a couple of weeks ago. That was fun. We spent a week in Qatar. We got to go on different tours. One across the sand dunes to a beach in SUV's, another out in the Arabian Gulf, a couple of malls, and a tour of downtown Doha, the capital. Relly neat.
Back in Kuwait now. Its still hot here. (130 is the hottest day so far) But now we have the added pleasure of humidity to go along with our triple digit heat! Good times in the desert. ;) Can't wait to come home.
I suppose its time for an update. Things are going pretty good here. Some days we are really busy and others are really long and slow. I've been in country now for 3 months with 5 to go. Or another way to look at it, 10 more paychecks.
We've been having a lot of sand/dust storms lately. The longest one lasted close to 4 days! The thermometer hit 125 in the shade a few days ago. You know you've been in the desert too long when 90 degrees feels cool. Gatorade and water are the drinks of choice here.
For those curious, I've seen camels, lizards, hedgehogs, camel spiders, a desert fox here and there, and something that looked like a cross between a camel and a sheep. Haven't figured that one out yet. The best we could come up with was a shamel.
When the air is full of sand, does it seem to affect the temperature one way or the other? I guess when you're in the 125 degree range, 110 would be a cold front. We are thinking of you!
Hey, Brian - Letha King here. I miss seeing you on occasion. Not that I saw you that much after you took off to Tyler, but occasionally you would honor us with your presence. I guess I won't complain too much when the temp here gets in the 90's. All things are comparable! Holly and T.J. are headed for California on Saturday. Bet you could appreciate some of that California weather right about now, if you can stay out of the fires they are having out there. Good luck!
hey brian, this is jarod. you need a new post. are you halfway done with your deployment yet? the temperature there must be brutal. it's been in the upper 90's here. hope things are going good with you.
